…welp, that Prototype Outer concept art was revealed a whole two months ago and I got all excited for nothing. :U

I did try to check and see if someone had shared it here first, but tumblr search gave me a whole lot of nothing useful before spitting a wall of bots at me.

And so, I have drawn fanart of Fukano Youichi’s concept Outers. Some details I had to take liberties with (ex. what earrings everyone besides Pluto is wearing).

Concept!Neptune ended up being a delicate balancing act between maintaining fidelity to the concept art and sufficiently differentiating her from final!Neptune. You’d think that wouldn’t be too difficult, and yet.

We interrupt your regularly-scheduled fanart and amigurumi to bring you HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT’S THE CONCEPT ART OF THE BETA OUTERS IN THEIR SAILOR GUARDIAN FORMS (along with the best look we’re gonna get at “Forever Sailor Soldiers”)

Unexpectedly found at the Sailor Moon Fantasy forums (Italian). No idea where OP originally found these–maybe Fukano Youichi shared them somewhere?

Among other things: Sailor Moon got a different tiara and a skull-crusher of a scepter, Chibi Moon would’ve inherited the Cutie Moon Rod (and been red), and contrary to what was reported of one Animage article, beta Saturn was bright-ass yellow. Pluto would’ve changed planet colours, too–maybe this is why her early dolls wore purple?

Hilariously, Neptune barely changed at all, colour-wise. I’m pretty sure Uranus was supposed to be a different shade of orange from Venus; her Lip Rod’s design became the basis for Neptune’s.

Most curiously–to me, at least–the Outers all have golden chokers with gem decs, mirroring Sailor Moon’s choker (well, in her Super Form–it’s gold on her Cosmic form here, too), and Uranus and Neptune’s Lip Rods both have crescents. Was there a connection?

Important Victreebel update: there was an opening in the stem to stuff it after all. She is now Certified “Complete”.

(With bonus Lurantis shot.)

Guess who owns a now-rare Olyfactory Lurantis? Me, that’s who.

For anyone not aware: until the Sitting Cuties line makes it to Gen VII, this is currently the only semi-commercially-available Lurantis plush… rather, it was; it is no longer being made, as Olyfactory got a visit from the NintenNinjas. This complicated my search for one just a teensy bit.

eBay was a wash; results were slim-to-nonexistent most everywhere else. The site I ended up obtaining my Lurantis from was, of all places, Mercari JP; one seller who seems to deal primarily in Olyfactory and other third-party plush had recently listed one whole Lurantis. The only one on any storefront searchable through Neokyo, in fact.

He arrived just yesterday in decent condition, with one problem spot: his right ear had partially detached from his head, if it had been fully sewn down to begin with. I may be a below-amateur sewist, but I was at least able to fix that; If you spot yellow thread in these pics, it’s because that’s all I had on hand.

Here’s two shots of Lurantis and another with him and fellow unofficial Grass-type plush Victreebel.

Somewhere in Romania, Caleb and Wren take a well-deserved break.

One of my recent Poke-plush acquisitions: a very big, very unofficial Victreebel. Pictured here on our living room couch.

I opted to get an unstuffed ‘Bel for around eighteen bucks, since the r/pokeplush user who showed off theirs mentioned only wishing that it had a little more stuffing. The process of stuffing my 'Bel’s body was pretty simple–where I anticipated an opening that needed to be sewn closed, as the listing implied, was instead a big red zipper.

And then I got to the mouth-rim. Turns out I neither know how to nor enjoy stuffing around pre-made curves, especially when there’s a second opening you didn’t notice right away and maybe wasn’t supposed to be there. (I took care of it.) Many hours were spent struggling to shove compacted stuffing further down the curve from two directions; eventually, I was able to close the gap and sew the opening shut, feeling both rather accomplished and incredibly wary of doing this again.

(There doesn’t appear to be a way to stuff the vine without a seam ripper, which I don’t have and am not attempting.)

End result: a huge plush of everyone’s favourite territorial pitcher plant. I like to think that she’ll help ward off the gnats.

Coming in at project no. 40: Eternal Sailor Chibi Moon!

The element I was most concerned about was her twintails… which ended up being very easy to figure out, after I stopped stressing about making the base and tips all one piece. :U

She has the exact same body as Saturn, though due to the difference in gauge between my ivory and light peach yarn, Saturn gets the height advantage.

It’s not like I wasn’t gonna draw that peacock. Also included a couple other unused Gen III Pokemon that caught my eye.

Ironically, despite being “just a peafowl” (the reason that I revamped my Phasiris into a pseudo-manticore), I think this design is fine as-is; the lack of wings implies that it wasn’t Flying-type, which I think is uncommon amongst bird Pokemon even now.

No concept art of Kujatta or Ninfu has surfaced yet; these are my interpretations of the sprites. Lilidy got some of her ombre back (present in sprites, removed in her revised art).

wrt: the Teraleak… we almost got a peacock and a hummingbird, my two favourite birds, in the same gen. I really hope that concept art (not just a front sprite) surfaces of the former, for I am compelled to draw it.

(Well, I did doodle the peacock and the spider lily girl earlier. But I’d like a clearer look at the peacock’s face)

I am also very curious as to what stage of development those edgier pieces of Gen III concept art came from. Assuming that this was where Game Freak considered taking the series art direction, as opposed to rough ideas by a non-Pokemon artist meant to be Pokefied later–well, take all your debates about stylistic shifts between the gens we got and multiply ‘em by THAT.
